The Jallipatty Story – From Kota to Trichy, temples, hills, seas and a home away from home
My journey started from Kota Junction on the night of 21st at 1:25 AM. I boarded the Kota → Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) train, eyes heavy with sleep and heart full of quiet excitement. After a long night we reached Trichy on the 22nd at around 3:00 PM. From there we hired a cab and drove to Jallipatty — my friend’s village in Theni district, Tamil Nadu.
The main reason for the trip was family — my friend had two important ceremonies during our stay:
We stayed in the village from 22nd to 29th, and in between these events we explored the area and soaked up village life.
The village was beautiful — simple homes, green fields, and friendly faces. I met many members of my friend’s family and cousins, and in just a few hours I felt a deep connection with them. We played cards, shared meals, watched sunrises and sunsets together, and spent long evenings talking. It felt like I had known them my whole life — not just met them ten days earlier.
During the stay we visited several memorable places around Theni, Madurai and Rameshwaram:
Rameshwaram’s sacred aura was humbling. Walking along the ghats and seeing devotees perform rituals created a sense of calm. Dhanushkodi, with its haunting ruins and lonely shoreline, felt almost otherworldly — a place where nature and memory meet.
Kodaikanal was a breath of fresh air — boating on the lake, walking along Coaker’s Walk, and visiting Pillar Rocks made for a perfect day-trip escape from the plains. The weather there is pleasantly cool, and the views are unforgettable.
The local markets in Theni are full of colors and aromas — from block-printed textiles and handmade mojris to fresh spices and sweets. It was fun to explore and pick a few local souvenirs.
A typical day in Jallipatty was simple and soulful — mornings watching the sun rise, evenings watching it set, playing cards, enjoying homemade Tamil food, and joining the family in small rituals and conversations. These everyday moments built the strongest memories.

This trip was more than sightseeing — it was about discovering human connections and simple joys. From the spiritual calm of temples to the cool hills of Kodaikanal and the raw beauty of Dhanushkodi, every moment was special. But nothing beat the warmth of Jallipatty’s people. Tamil Nadu has my heart now.
If you’re planning a Tamil Nadu trip in 2025, consider adding Theni, Madurai, Rameshwaram, Dhanushkodi, and Kodaikanal to your itinerary.
